The RSVP Volunteer of the Month for Dauphin and Cumberland counties is the team of Shirley Nye and Barry Hostetler.

Nye and Hostetler have volunteered via RSVP with the American Red Cross in Perry, Cumberland, and Dauphin counties for nearly five years.

Nye and Hostetler help families recover from disasters, such as fire, broken water pipes, and fallen trees. They enjoy helping the families recover by finding them a place to stay while they are recovering.

Nye and Hostetler have been in parades and town events, showing what the Red Cross does and how it helps people. Hostetler and Nye also volunteer at churches and senior centers.

Nye and Hostetler have lived in Duncannon for five years after spending time living in northwest Indiana while working for the Red Cross.

Both have lost their former spouses. Hostetler served in the U.S. Navy in the Vietnam era, and Nye was a wife of an Army veteran who served in the Korean War.
